Material accumulation or spiritual abundance?

Wouldn't it be wonderful to be sure you'd always have enough for tomorrow?

A Young man who was moving into a home of his own took most of his possessions with him. But he stored a lot of old schoolbooks with his parents. He didn't want his new home cluttered with unnecessary things, he explained, but he didn't want the books thrown away, either!

Do we sometimes take this same attitude when considering our deeper purposes and goals? We genuinely desire to keep our lives orderly and harmonious, but we are at the same time reluctant to part with long-held views, stubborn beliefs, and personal opinions, even though these may be causing disorder and inharmony. Can anything be done to eliminate this accumulation in our thinking so that our lives flow more smoothly toward accomplishing the good we so much want to achieve?

Yes, we are able to rid ourselves of attitudes that restrict our whole way of thinking and acting. But this is not done simply through willpower. It is done by learning more of our true, spiritual nature and of our relationship to God.
