Christian Science came into my family when my mother was...
Christian Science came into my family when my mother was healed of consumption through the prayers of a Christian Science practitioner. I was twelve at the time and attended Christian Science Sunday School for the next eight years. I must confess that my attendance was sometimes irregular and sometimes under protest, but what I learned there has stood me in good stead ever since.
Once when I was in my early twenties and spending a weekend in my parents' home, I was suffering from a severe throat infection. My mother, realising that something had to be done, wisely asked me whether I would like to see a doctor or have a Christian Science practitioner help me. I am glad to say that I chose the latter, and by the next morning I was completely healed. As one might say, "the penny dropped" at that moment, and I have relied on Christian Science for healing ever since, both for physical troubles and in difficult home and business situations.
While I was working on an assignment in Arabia, I woke up one morning suffering from one of those stomach disorders that can be prevalent in a hot climate and unfamiliar surroundings. My work had to be completed within a fairly tight timetable, and I quickly turned to God. I sat down to study the Bible Lesson for that week. During this study I became so absorbed with the certainty of the allness and ever-presence of God that by the time I had finished, no trace of the indisposition remained.
