The right side, the wrong side, the one and only side

Do you remember how, when you were growing up, you'd get chosen for one of the sides in a game? You'd be expected to play hard for that side. But if you made too many mistakes, you might hear someone on your team yell, "Hey, whose side are you on anyway?"

It's the kind of question we may need to ask ourselves in the course of seeking healing through prayer as understood in Christian Science. We might as well be playing for the wrong side if we're spending more time telling ourselves and others the deplorable facts of our case than we are striving to understand spiritual truth.

Mary Baker Eddy, who discovered and founded Christian Science, writes: "If you wish to be happy, argue with yourself on the side of happiness; take the side you wish to carry, and be careful not to talk on both sides, or to argue stronger for sorrow than for joy. You are the attorney for the case, and will win or lose according to your plea." Christian Healing, p. 10.
