One day three summers ago, while mowing the lawn, I went to scoop the grass out of the chute on the lawn mower, and part of my finger was cut off. My husband, who is not a Christian Scientist, insisted on taking me to the emergency room at the hospital to have the finger sewn back on, and I agreed.
The doctor said that it would be better just to draw the skin over the end, but I told him that I needed my finger. He agreed to reattach the finger but predicted that he would have to take it off again.
Upon returning home, and for the next several days, I studied Christian Science and prayed to gain a better understanding of my real being as the spiritual idea of God.
