Many years ago a growth appeared under my arm and despite what I felt were my sincere efforts to practice Christian Science, it began to enlarge. So I called a Christian Science practitioner for special help. Within two days the growth had completely disappeared.
When I asked the practitioner why my own efforts had not brought healing, she alerted me to my need to assert my freedom from the influence of the whole world's fear of such symptoms. I lighted up with a great smile of happiness when I heard this, for suddenly the nothingness of the belief of life in matter—the illusion of disease and disease symptoms—was, in the light of the allness of God, clear to me. This to me was most inspiring, and I have cherished and referred to it many times in the years since.
One day about three years ago I had much discomfort near the bottom of my spine. I paid little attention to the trouble at first—only to find the next day that the situation was much worse. Although I had company coming, my study of the Bible Lesson (outlined in the Christian Science Quarterly) that day was not neglected. Also, I was very determined to be conscious of truth at all times, for as the Bible says (Isa. 28:10), "Precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little."
