I joyously recall a childhood healing which occurred through prayer in Christian Science. At one point I developed a mass of warts on my hand. Not only were they unsightly but they caused me much discomfort when I bumped them while playing with the other children. At first I was not overly concerned about the condition. But as time went by and the warts were still there, I desperately wanted to be rid of them.

A family member noticed the warts as I fretted over them one day. She encouraged me to go to our grandmother and ask her to pray for me for healing. For several years our grandmother had regularly studied the weekly Bible Lesson outlined in the Christian Science Quarterly, although I was not aware of her affiliation with Christian Science at the time. I did not want to enlist her help unless I shared her confidence in prayer. So I spent time pondering the nature of God until I felt certain that He would help me. Then one afternoon when school let out, I dashed on over to Grandma's house.

After I had hurriedly explained why I had come and asked her help, she was very patient, kind, and loving. She tenderly inquired if I knew that all things are possible to God, and I answered yes. Then she asked what I thought God to be. I told her that even though I'd never seen God, I knew He had to be real, because there had to be something governing everything to keep it all going. With that answer I felt a sense of well-being I had never known.
