Several years ago I faced a very challenging time

Several years ago I faced a very challenging time. I was elected Second Reader of the small branch church of which my husband and I had recently become members. This occurred just three and a half weeks after my husband had suddenly passed on. Only ten days before, we had witnessed the completion of the lovely new "retirement" home we had planned and built.

Through Science I had been lifted out of a sense of grieving for my husband. But there was still much to deal with. Added to this, when I thought about the fact that my term as Reader was to begin in less than a month, I just panicked. There were so many things to be done—and all on my own. I had to move our belongings from our former house (in another city), where we had lived almost forty years, to the new house. The former house also had to be sold, and there was the settling of my husband's estate. In a flash came the angel message that although I had not asked for this position of Reader (or the other responsibilities), God would see me through. From then on, I never doubted my God-given ability to do what was before me—especially the reading.

The precious privilege of reading at this time brought untold blessings. I dived into the Bible and Mrs. Eddy's writings with a sense of purpose I'd never known before. I drank deeply at the fount, and I could not seem to get enough of the blessed truth in those books. The people of the Bible who had been just names before became like good friends to me.
