A new home
One day my mother called me on the telephone and said, "Martha, you must come and rescue these wild ducks before they get out in the street."
So I jumped in my car and drove over. Sure enough. There on the lawn were a mother duck and twelve little baby ducklings —all fuzzy and soft.
"How do you suppose she came to be in the midst of all these houses?" I asked. Mother thought a minute. "She must have flown here earlier this spring looking for a place to make her nest and lay her eggs."
