Keep on praying!
Tom and his dog were inseparable friends. Jeanie was part collie and part Russian wolfhound. Her long silky fur was all white except for a big brown patch around her left eye.
Tom had no brothers or sisters, but he never felt alone, because he could always play with Jeanie. She kept an eye on Tom wherever they went—to the park, on hikes with Dad in the backcountry, and for rides in the family car. When Tom came home from school, Jeanie ran to him, wagging her tail and yelping happily.
In the fourth grade, Tom and his best friend George spent a weekend at Mr. Fullerton's camp in the backcountry. Of course, Jeanie went with the boys. On Sunday morning Mr. Fullerton drove Tom and George into town to go to the Christian Science Sunday School. They left Jeanie alone in a screened porch, and they didn't get back until late afternoon. As they approached the house Tom cried out, "Look! The porch door is open! Jeanie's not there!"
