In the spring of 1985, when our third child was born, he did not seem strong enough to drink. I called the Christian Science practitioner who had prayed for me during the pregnancy and delivery. Her instant response was one of love and care, and she lifted my fearful thought to the truth that God naturally and continuously sustains His children. The child nursed well during the next two days. Then he appeared uninterested and again was getting very little milk.

A Christian Science nurse came to our home and lovingly assisted me in attending to the child. Her counsel to never serve a meal with fear was a joyful admonition to me. The practitioner gently helped me understand the complete provision of our Father-Mother God and how all needs are exactly met.

Two days later I took the child, who was two weeks old, for a blood test required by the state. The nurse at the hospital weighed our son three times and was visibly upset to find a significant weight loss. A doctor was immediately called. He examined the infant and requested we return for another weigh-in the following morning. The doctor was very concerned and said that the baby would have to be checked into the hospital for intravenous feeding if he lost another couple of ounces.
