My introduction to Christian Science took place during my college years, when I met a young woman whose religion answered the many questions I had. The church in which I had been brought up had given me no satisfactory answers. I began the study of Christian Science, and as soon as I was eligible, I joined The Mother Church and a branch church and have rejoiced for over forty-five years in the reliability and efficacy of the Science of the Christ.

I met my husband on a sightseeing tour of The Mother Church. He had been brought up in this Science after his mother's healing of curvature of the spine. (Carried into a Christian Science practitioner's office, she had walked out—fully healed.)

We were married shortly after the start of World War II. Before he left for three years overseas on a somewhat hazardous assignment, we came to feel, through prayer and study of Christian Science, that my husband would never have to shoot anyone. Although occasionally he was behind enemy lines, the only time he used his carbine was to shoot a deer when his unit ran out of food.
