Up early for a special jog
5 a.m. The alarm rings. I jump out of bed and prepare for my morning jog. As I start, I pick up my Bible, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, and the Christian Science Quarterly. Quickly I find the quietest spot in the house, and I am off on my daily spiritual exercise.
The crisp air of God-inspired messages invigorates my consciousness. Gently guided by the study of the weekly Bible Lesson, I steadily explore the spiritual reality of being, which exposes the impossibility of life or intelligence in matter. I feel warmth, assurance, conviction, and joy within —the certainty that God is man's Life and Mind. My day's foundation has been built, and it continues to strengthen me throughout the busy day ahead.
This spiritual morning exercise is by no means a new trend. Christ Jesus practiced it; the Bible describes his steps on one particular day: "And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed." Mark 1:35. He then proceeded to fill his day with astounding healing work and inspiring teaching.
