At one time I embarked on a tour of Israel

At one time I embarked on a tour of Israel. I am particularly grateful for a healing that took place during the trip.

My schedule included a five-day expedition by jeep to Mount Sinai [Horeb] with another group. We stopped for a swim in the Red Sea the first day. Then we took another swim with face masks and saw the most beautiful fish. When I got out to the water, one of the people in the group warned me that I should cover my back because it was very sunburned. I did, but I forgot that the most important thing is the protection afforded by one's prayer.

I didn't feel very well that night, but the next day I was able to go on the expedition to Mount Sinai. It involved a long, three-hour climb, and occasionally my back hurt. Still, the descent from the mount by moonlight was full of inspiration. Here Moses had communed with God and become receptive to a higher way to live—following the Ten Commandments. I reflected on why it was that this was a glorious place for me as well. It was neither the historical setting nor my own emotions that made me feel the greatest sense of wonder. It was recognition of the practical application of these Commandments, as we understand them in Christian Science. Obeying these laws helps us to feel God's nearness and to demonstrate Truth and Love. In this way we can heal all sorts of human difficulties. Realizing this filled me with a deep sense of peace and joy.
