A few years ago in our area, car theft was running rampant
A few years ago in our area, car theft was running rampant. The stolen cars were seldom recovered and then only as junk. It was at this time that my son's car, a very popular make and model, was stolen. He had worked all summer between his junior and senior high-school years to buy the car.
I knew that the car was rightfully my son's and that no one else could truly want it. As I prayed, I worked with these two verses from Genesis: "God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them" (1:27). Also, "And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good" (1:31). I kept affirming that God had not created and never could create dishonesty.
The car was stolen on a Saturday. The following Friday a neighbor remarked, "You will never see that car again. The car is probably five hundred miles into Mexico by this time." But I kept holding to the truth that man is upright and pure and does not covet.
The following morning the authorities called and described a stolen car they had found. When we confirmed my son was the owner, they said to bring a battery and come get the car, which we did. (Although the stereo had been taken, the speakers were intact. The four new tires were fine, and the car was in excellent condition.) We were very grateful.
More recently, about a year and a half ago, one day I felt something in one of my eyes. By bedtime, vision was affected and there were other symptoms. After going to bed I was in pain. So I prayed all night, acknowledging that God is All. He is ever present, and fills all space. I then felt enveloped in love, love for everyone and everything.
Although the next day the eye became normal, two days later there were further symptoms and the vision was again impaired. But I refused to accept this difficulty as having a place in my true being. Mrs. Eddy tells us (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 419): "Meet every adverse circumstance as its master. Observe mind instead of body, lest aught unfit for development enter thought. Think less of material conditions and more of spiritual." I made a point of allowing only the spiritual facts of God and His perfect creation into my thought. The condition gradually improved. After some weeks the eye was normal in appearance and function, and it has remained so.
I am truly grateful for Christian Science.

I want to verify my mother's testimony. I am the son whose car was stolen. The car was returned exactly as she describes in the testimony. I am grateful to have been raised in Christian Science and to have served in the Christian Science college organization on campus as both Reader and president.
