"Thy kingdom is come; Thou art ever-present" is Mrs. Eddy's spiritual interpretation of the line "Thy kingdom come" from the Lord's Prayer (see Science and Health, pp. 16-17). Think what these words tell us! God is ever present. Understanding that one phrase taken from the prayer Christ Jesus gave his disciples (see Matt. 6:9-13) has many times stopped error (illness, discord) in its tracks and brought healing to my life. A deeper understanding of these words has compounded my joys, too.
I had occasion to hold to the truth of God's ever-presence recently. I woke in the night feeling very thirsty and decided to get a glass of water. But in my sleep I had become entangled in the sheets so that when I jumped out of bed, I fell to the floor, landing hard on the extended sharp corner of my bedside table.
When I regained consciousness some moments later, I found myself on the floor, holding my obviously injured head, hearing the words quoted above, though not fully realizing that it was I who was saying them. I felt a great surge of spiritual strength, and I managed to get to the bathroom. There, as I cleaned my head and face, I noticed an open gash through my eyebrow. But I affirmed that I was, in reality, God's perfect child. I knew that the material picture was not the way God, divine Mind, knows His beloved child. I kept realizing more and more clearly that He is ever present. Soon the open gash had closed; there was just a thin red line in evidence.
