I have been a student of Christian Science since I was ten years old. At that time my mother had a remarkable healing of rheumatism, and she promptly enrolled me in the Sunday School of a branch Church of Christ, Scientist. Science has been my support and guiding light throughout these many years, and I have had numerous healings along the way. Several stand out in my thought.

One summer, when I was young, I joined a group of mountain climbers. On one occasion we had been climbing for an hour or so when I felt a severe pain in one of my knees. I struggled along, and at the halfway station the guide, who had noticed the difficulty I was having in walking, urged me to return to our camp. I felt, however, that it was right to continue and that there was no reason why I couldn't experience harmony in accordance with God's law of perfection. I knew that God did not know pain; therefore I, in my true being as His perfect child, could not know it. I was soon free from discomfort and able to continue the climb. Before the day was over, I had even slid down three glaciers.

I had an unusual fear of electrical storms. When I was growing up, every time there was a storm the whole family would gather together and wait for the turbulence to pass. If the storm occurred at night, we would all dress and come from our rooms to be in one place.
