I owe a great debt of gratitude to Christian Science for years of blessings and healings my family and I have received. I am happy to share the following.

One day while I was preparing for a party in our home, I was cleaning house when I slipped on the wet concrete. I was able to stop my fall, and I felt no ill effects, so I continued cleaning. That evening, however, my hip and leg were in great pain, and movement seemed impossible. My prayer to God was immediate: "Father, please show me what I need to know!" The answer was also immediate. The day's events flashed before my thought. My husband had suggested I postpone the heavier cleaning tasks until he could help me; but this would be delayed because he had a busy schedule, and I had wanted them done then.

Well, it was clear to me that I needed to replace willfulness with willingness. I prayed to understand my true nature as a spiritual child of God—the obedient, willing, and patient man of God's creating, who is controlled, ordered, and maintained in perfect peace. I sought to know, as a favorite hymn states, "What is thy Father's plan / For His beloved son?" (Christian Science Hymnal, No. 382). I was obedient, although with some reluctance, to the ideas that came as the answer to my prayer. I postponed the party, secured substitutes for my duties at church and the Christian Science Reading Room, and my husband arranged for someone to replace me on our club tennis team. That night I continued to pray for myself. Finally I fell asleep.
