Reminders of man's perfection
Prayer and study in Christian Science can be immensely encouraging. They remind us of how loved we are of God, how perfect each one of us really is as God's man, His spiritual offspring. We might even say that one purpose of our daily quiet time alone with God is to help us recognize the perfection that is our genuine nature—and in truth is already established in our consciousness.
Already in our consciousness? Someone might say, "But I thought the purpose of prayer and study was to help us learn of God and of man's relationship to Him as taught in Christian Science." Certainly it is. But if we approach our communing with God from a truly spiritual standpoint, we'll understand that man is at one with God—and we'll have clearer consciousness of being man, God's spiritually created idea.
The spiritual standpoint—the correct point of view—is that we do in fact already understand man's spiritual perfection. Since man is God's spiritual expression, man necessarily understands his identity. Divine Truth comprises our actual consciousness because God is the Mind of man. All that man can know is the harmony of being that God knows.
