When I was playing on the playground at school one day, a girl who is a friend of my best friend came up to me. She told me that she knew I hated my best friend. Then she started to call me bad names and said she hated me. When we were going back into school from recess, she kicked me and punched me, but I didn't kick or punch her back. When I sat down in my seat, she came by my desk and said, "You'd better fight back or you're a chicken."
Then I started to pray. I knew she was really God's perfect child and that God loved her. I knew that I loved her too. In Christian Science Sunday School we have been learning that Christ Jesus told us to "love one another" (John 15:12), and especially to "love your enemies" (Matt. 5:44).
The girl came by my desk right after I prayed and gave me a note that said, "I like you a lot, and I must have been crazy to act like that. Will you play with me?" I said, "Yes." It made me so happy to be friends again, and to see how praying and loving your enemies can help.
