"Every trial of our faith in God makes us stronger," states Mary Baker Eddy in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. And she goes on to say, "The more difficult seems the material condition to be overcome by Spirit, the stronger should be our faith and the purer our love" (p. 410).

Several years ago I had an opportunity to prove the truth of this statement. One day I was suddenly seized with the painful effects of an internal condition. This occurred just prior to the Christmas season, a time when my ceramics studio, where I held classes, was normally closed. A Christian Science practitioner was called to support me through prayer, and within six weeks I was greatly improved.

However, there seemed to be a long period of recuperation. And I wasn't yet free from the feeling that I had been through a terrible experience which might recur.
