Practical religion
The basis of true religion is not a dogma or a creed but a demonstrable revelation of divine Truth. To believe, because so much disaster, want, and woe are evident, that God does not care for His creation every instant is like believing that traffic laws are no good because there are so many accidents on the road. God is divine Principle, Love, and without Love and Principle understood and practiced, God seems to be temporarily absent. The failure is on our part. God, divine Truth, is actually ever present; and we can prove that He is.
The application of truth gives evidence of Truth. In Science and Health Mrs. Eddy says: "Christian Science reveals incontrovertibly that Mind is All-in-all, that the only realities are the divine Mind and idea. This great fact is not, however, seen to be supported by sensible evidence, until its divine Principle is demonstrated by healing the sick and thus proved absolute and divine." Science and Health, p. 109.
Solar light reveals what exists in the so-called physical realm, while spiritual light illumines divine reality. Christ Jesus, as the spiritual light of the world, proved his teachings of the kingdom of heaven, the reign of harmony, by destroying the appearance of disharmony in healing the sick and even raising the dead. He has offered salvation to us all by showing us the way to do the same works he did.
