When I first met my husband, he had just left...

When I first met my husband, he had just left his preparation for the ministry to take up the study of Christian Science. This had come as a blow to his parents. Then (before I was introduced to them) they learned that he was seriously interested in me and that I was a Christian Scientist. Based on this latter point, there was great resistance on their part to our friendship. When his parents and I finally did meet, they were polite but distant, and their opposition to our plans to be married was very evident. Afterward I sought the prayerful help of a Christian Science practitioner.

Meanwhile his family began introducing him to other girls, involving him in social events that didn't include me, and so on. One day he received five letters from friends of his parents, warning him not to marry a girl who his parents felt was not a good choice for him.

Through the love and spiritual clarity of the practitioner, who was like a mother to me (my mother had passed on when I was quite young), my fiance and I realized that the only Mind in control for all of us was God. We knew that God loved us all. We also knew that if this marriage was really right, it would bless everyone. On the other hand, if it wasn't right, we didn't want it. I felt happy and at peace.
