To go higher, go deeper

The way to the spiritual recognition of God and His idea, man, involves at least some understanding of the terms "infinity," "immortality," and "eternity." Do you know something of how it feels to reflect God's infinite love, infinite intelligence, infinite joy, immortal life and peace; to have a conviction of your spiritual, uninterrupted coexistence with God?

Probably not if you have tried to attain the feeling through human willpower. But if one is humbly, wholeheartedly reaching out to the divine Mind, he will be able to grasp somewhat the substance of Truth and Love, and God will become clearer and nearer to him. More and more he will claim his rightful heritage as the purely spiritual child of infinite Spirit.

Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, declares, "Entirely separate from the belief and dream of material living, is the Life divine, revealing spiritual understanding and the consciousness of man's dominion over the whole earth." Science and Health, p. 14. I come back to these words from the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, again and again. They are to me a springboard from which to thrust Spiritward, a step we are all compelled to take sooner or later. Even when we can claim some understanding of spiritual identity, there is the temptation to remain static in this still dim vision rather than continue to push for deeper understanding.
