I am so very grateful for Christian Science

I am so very grateful for Christian Science. This year has been a particularly exciting time of spiritual growth for me as a result of prayerful preparation for the birth of our first child.

At one time I was told that because of a malformation I would have trouble conceiving and would probably not be able to carry a child to full term. Later, when I became pregnant, I immediately began prayerful study of the Bible, and Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. In this work I had a joyous sense of opening my thought to understanding man as the idea of God. This reference from Science and Health was particularly helpful (p. 256): "All things are created spiritually. Mind, not matter, is the creator. Love, the divine Principle, is the Father and Mother of the universe, including man."

A pamphlet on parenthood from The Christian Science Publishing Society was also a lovely source of inspiration. One of the articles in the pamphlet really helped me to understand clearly that both the mother and the child have, in reality, distinct and complete spiritual individuality, reflecting divine Mind. One idea doesn't exist within another idea, but all exist in Mind, directly nourished and governed by God. This clear sense of the child being in God's care, not disturbing or interrupting the mother's harmony in any way, totally freed me from the effects often associated with pregnancy.
