A wise choice
If you were asked to name your innermost desire, what would it be? More money, a better position, a finer home, improved health and strength?
Long ago a young king was asked this very question. The biblical record tells us that early in Solomon's reign, the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, "Ask what I shall give thee." Without hesitation Solomon requested "an understanding heart" that he might "discern between good and bad." I Kings 3:5, 9. God approved the answer, and in granting his request declared moreover that because of his wise choice, both riches and honor were also bestowed on him.
In the light of Christian Science "an understanding heart" may be taken to mean the capacity to discern the true nature of God's creation as forever perfect and intact, to recognize man as reflecting the substance and nature of Spirit. An understanding heart perceives spiritual ideas to be real and enduring and their material counterfeits to be unreal.
