At one time when a member of my family and I were discussing Christian Science, he made the remark that although he had witnessed many healings, he didn't feel Christian Science could be relied on to heal broken bones. I assured him that because I knew God was the one cause and creator, the only power, I felt I could trust God completely in every circumstance.
Recently I had the opportunity to prove this. While entering a dimly lighted restaurant, I neglected to see the steps ahead of me and plunged sharply forward. As I fell, I heard a loud snap in my ankle, and it was apparent that the anklebone was broken. For a moment I was almost overcome with pain. Then the thought quietly came to me, "In God you live, move, and have your being" (see Acts 17:28).
Great concern was expressed by those around me, and they strongly urged me to allow them to call an ambulance. I firmly declined and asked the friend who was with me to call a Christian Science practitioner to pray for me. Almost immediately after the practitioner had been reached I felt relief, and I was soon taken to my home.
