Angel thoughts prayer and special crayons

I read a storybook once about a boy who decided to take a walk in the moonlight. Crockett Johnson, Harold and the Purple Crayon (New York: Harper & Row, 1955 ). Since there wasn't any moon in the sky, the boy just took his special purple crayon and drew a moon. And then he drew the path he would walk on, too. Later in the story, when the boy needed a boat to get to shore, he drew a boat with his crayon, and then he climbed in and raised the sail.

Of course it was just a pretend story, but I sometimes think about it. I think about how the boy was sure he could have the good he needed. And you know what I decided? I decided there's a better way to find good—something even better than a special purple crayon. It's prayer. I can always pray and find God is with me. He gives me what I really need. And prayer is part of real life, not a made-up story.

If I'm afraid, or sick, or need a friend to share with, or a good thought to help my dog if he gets into trouble—whenever I need God's help—I pray. And I pray when I'm happy, too.
