My introduction to Christian Science came...

My introduction to Christian Science came through an uncle, who gave me a copy of the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. I read the textbook for an hour, then I put the book down and didn't bother to open it again for some years.

Several years later I was in desperate need. I collapsed one day and was rushed into hospital, where I was put on the danger list as suffering from an aneurysm. I was partially paralyzed and could not think or speak rationally. After six weeks my husband was informed by the doctor that there was little he could do for me. He said that the severe hemorrhaging could return and that I would probably remain in that same condition, "like a cabbage." I was released from the hospital, and my intention was to take an overdose of sleeping pills, for I could not face the future in that state.

Then a subscription to the Sentinel was "gifted" to me by a cousin. One day as my husband read me an article from this weekly magazine, I thought about the healing it related and said to myself, "Why can't that happen to me?" In a few moments I found I could use my fingers again, and the pain in my arm disappeared. I cannot express the joy and gratitude I felt.
