Prayer from the lowlands
For the convenience of some readers we will occasionally print an article in large type.
You don't have to be on a mountaintop of spiritual understanding; you can pray in the lowlands. No matter how low you have fallen, no matter how desperate you may have become, you can still pray. You can pray even if you think you've done something terrible and don't deserve God's help. You can pray even if God seems far away from you.
You are never far from God. The Bible says, "If I make my bed in hell, behold, thou [God] art there." And farther on, in reference to remote places, "Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me." Ps. 139:8, 10. So you are never far from God, never far from help.
Christian Science explains God. It also explains man. It shows that God and man are not in different worlds. God and man coexist. God is Love and Truth. He is good and perfect. Man is God's expression. Man isn't afraid or grief-stricken or addicted; these are lies about the man God made. Man, the man God made, is good and perfect. Know this and you are praying. Live it, even just a tiny bit, and your prayers take hold in a deep way.
