As a young man I reached a point where I was unable to continue working because I was so ill. Heart trouble, stomach trouble, and a nervous disorder all plagued me. The Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, had been in my possession for some time. Now, in my extreme need, I began to read the book every day. After reading the chapter entitled "Science, Theology, Medicine," I discarded the medicine I was taking, and I was soon healed of the stomach trouble.
Later, with the help of a Christian Science practitioner, I was able to return to my work, rejoicing in complete healing of the heart trouble and nervous disorder. Deeply grateful for these healings, straight away I joined The Mother Church and a branch church.
Shortly after that I was called up for duty in the armed forces. I passed the physical examination with ease and was classified as I A. While serving with the forces, near the end of the Second World War, I was able to take Christian Science class instruction, thanks to the cooperation of the captain I was serving under.
