For many years I was troubled by a disfiguring growth on the left side of my nose. During all this time I was a member of The Mother Church and had actively served a branch church in various capacities, and, when the healing occurred, as First Reader. I had prayed to heal the condition and also had help from Christian Science practitioners at different times. Still the situation remained unchanged. Some people even advised me to have the growth surgically removed, since it was disfiguring. But that piece of advice was no temptation for me. I knew that there is only one true physician—divine Mind. Whatever had to be corrected in thought, I wished to have corrected—more than everything else. And I was certain this would result in healing.

Then it happened that I was asked to read the Swedish translation of the Christian Science lecture our branch church was to give in a month and a half. I was utterly surprised. It had never occurred to me that I would be a possible choice for this assignment. But it also made me very happy, and I felt that I would love to, so I accepted. Of course, the argument presented itself that I probably was not the one most suited, because of the way I looked. But, at the same time, so many wonderful truths came to me that I simply could not help being happy about having been chosen. I thought of this verse from Psalms (139:14): "I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well." And I recalled this statement from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy (p. 463), "A spiritual idea has not a single element of error, and this truth removes properly whatever is offensive." Thus I looked forward to taking part in the delivery of this lecture and expected it to be a blessing for me and for all who came to hear it. The lecturer had written our church concerning the Word of God and pointed out this verse (Isa. 55:11): "So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it."

I prepared myself as best I could for the lecture and felt great gratitude for Christian Science lecturers in general and for ours in particular, for he was coming with a new message. Hymn No. 204 in the Christian Science Hymnal gave me much inspiration. It begins:
