My written gratitude for Christian Science is long overdue, especially since the Bible tells us (Ps. 98:4), "Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all the earth: make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise."

When I was a young bride in 1909 I took up the study of Christian Science—not for healing but to learn more about God and His spiritual man. I had known nothing about this religion until I found a copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy among my husband's books. Then I started reading this precious textbook, and it became my daily companion; I read little else.

My early study of this Science brought the unsought blessings of comfort and healing. One day while on a train trip, I suffered from motion sickness—a malady that had plagued me whenever I traveled. By this time, however, I had learned "the scientific statement of being" (Science and Health, p. 468), which begins, "There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter. All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all." I began to ponder the statement, and before finishing it I suddenly realized that I had been instantaneously healed of the motion sickness. Oh, what gratitude I felt! The whole world seemed beautiful, and everyone in it joyful.
