How great is our God! And how important I feel it is to put in writing my gratitude for the healing, protecting, and guiding influence of the Christ.

I was born to parents who had not planned to have children. What wonderful assurance it was to learn later in a Christian Science Sunday School that we are all God's children; that God is our Father—yes, our Father-Mother; and that we are created in His own likeness—that is, each of us is the reflection of Life, Truth, Love, Principle, Mind, Soul, Spirit [see Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy 587:5-8]. Through this teaching, it was not long before I felt relieved of my fears about growth, maturity, and stability.

My first spiritual lessons took me through a series of personal healings. I spent many joyous times in prayer, knowing and demonstrating my true being as a child of the one perfect, omnipresent, omnipotent God. The next phase of my experience challenged me to take on a broader outlook and involved helping others—my family and those associates who sought a deeper understanding of God and man. This work demanded much selflessness, humility, and patience—sometimes more than I was willing to give.
