Some years ago a lawsuit was brought against me, intending to deprive me of the management of my own affairs on the grounds of incompetency. The awful sting of it all was that the case was brought by a very close relative. After some weeks of persistent prayer, one night I was able to see so beautifully that (John 1:9) "the true Light, which lighteth every man" is divine Truth, asserting and affirming itself. And I realized that everyone involved in this case was absolutely inseparable from Truth. An hour and a half later, my solicitors rang unexpectedly (past closing hours) to tell me that the case had been decided in my favor.
At the time I had been unable to walk—the strength of my lower limbs seemed gone—and this condition had persisted for three months or so. But I continued to pray. About ten days after this legal problem cleared up, I was able to walk as before.
Once, early in my study of Christian Science, I was in extreme pain from an infected jaw. The dentist I visited could do nothing the evening I called except take an X-ray. As I said, I was in extreme pain. At three o'clock in the morning I reached out to a God I did not know very well yet, tears flowing. As I reached out, this glorious, freeing message came to me: "Love—the source of that love which enables me to love my tiny daughter—has no pain to give." I saw my great God. I was free.
