On not clinging to personality
"Why shouldn't I cling to those I care about?" one might wonder.
The answer is found in this verse from the Old Testament: "Thou shalt have no other gods before me." Ex. 20:3. The first commandment means what it says. There is no provision for worship of material personality.
In an article entitled "Deification of Personality" Mrs. Eddy, who regarded the first commandment as her favorite Bible text, writes: "I earnestly advise all Christian Scientists to remove from their observation or study the personal sense of any one, and not to dwell in thought upon their own or others' corporeality, either as good or evil.
