Answering the call to conversion

"Except ye be converted, and become as little children ...." Matt. 18:3. With this admonition to his disciples, Christ Jesus pointed the way to experience God's kingdom.

Even so, some today might not consider the Master's words to be worthy of their attention. Yet despite the hedonism and shallow sort of worldly sophistication that all too often seem the popular style, thoughtful people are challenging materialistic social conventions. Christians hold the scriptural call to conversion to be a serious demand for individual progress. And the lives of Jesus' followers continue to give validity to the redemptive promise of that special childlikeness which Jesus commended: it is at the core of the Christian's joy and peace, true maturity, and lasting fulfillment in Christ.

Christ Jesus was a realist in the most precise and significant sense of the word—the spiritual sense. He clearly comprehended reality in Spirit, God. And Jesus knew what needed healing and regeneration in human experience. Moreover, he understood the truths that made the liberating difference—for himself and for multitudes. Jesus was ever conscious of God as the source of all life and being, and he demonstrated the great saving power of this God-bestowed consciousness. And so Jesus was recognized as one who spoke with authority.
