Don't scrutinize—see!

One day while I was reading Mrs. Eddy's book No and Yes, my thought was arrested by this statement: "There are sinners in all societies, and it is vain to look for perfection in churches or associations."

My eyes fixed on the words, "vain to look for perfection." My first thought was, why? What's wrong with looking for perfection? Then my question was answered, for Mrs. Eddy continues, "The life of Christ is the perfect example; and to compare mortal lives with this model is to subject them to severe scrutiny."No and Yes, p. 41.

Looking for perfection, scrutinizing fallible, imperfect mortals, subjecting human lives to investigation and test, is at the root of much personal disappointment and hurt, many difficulties in family relationships, and all manner of church and organizational problems.
