It is a real joy to share some of the proofs of God's healing power that have been mine over many years of practicing Christian Science. I'm especially grateful that my dear husband and I had the privilege of having Christian Science class instruction together from a dedicated teacher, and that we were able to attend the yearly Christian Science Students Association meeting together for forty-one years with no absences.
When my husband passed on, it was a challenging time, and I turned wholeheartedly to God. I felt His presence tenderly comforting me, and I remembered this verse from the Bible (Isa. 54:5): "For thy Maker is thine husband." Each day I prayerfully studied the Bible, as well as Science and Health and Mrs. Eddy's other writings, to gain an ever clearer concept of God as Life, and of man as the eternal reflection of this Life. I prayed to better understand that the real man is always safe in God's care. The article "Is There no Death?" in Unity of Good by Mrs. Eddy (pp. 37–43) was especially encouraging to me, as it points out that in the allness of God, good, there is no place for the belief of death. Studying the ninety-first Psalm also brought much inspiration. This discipline of daily prayer and study bore much fruit, for I was greatly comforted. A dear friend, who is a Christian Science practitioner, also helped me through that time—further evidence of God's loving care being expressed. I am grateful for the wonderful way in which I was sustained as my friend and I worked together.
Some time ago, I was in great discomfort with an apparent case of shingles. In praying about this difficulty, I turned to Mrs. Eddy's answer to the question "How would you define Christian Science?" (Rudimental Divine Science, p. 1): "As the law of God, the law of good, interpreting and demonstrating the divine Principle and rule of universal harmony." I clung constantly to the truth that God's law is in operation at all times, and that this all-powerful law rules out any seeming law of inharmony. I denied the belief that I could be a suffering mortal, and I affirmed that I was really God's child, a spiritual idea created by Him and always enfolded in His love.
