Grace
Love's answer to despair-prayer,
wordless balm to brought-to-the-knees agony of remorse,
crack-light of purity in the doom-gloom,
thunderbolt of hope, lightning flash of intuition:
All is not lost irrevocably.
(How out-of-the-garden Eve must have yearned for grace!)
Heart-washing flood of gratitude,
setter-on-the-feet jolt of joy,
shout of recognition—
"The Christ is come! The Christ is here!"
(Fallen Eve has never been.)
Comfort to repentance,
Word of Truth to ear, meek and ready to hear,
the Father's gracious gift to me,
Lamb-innocent identity.
