As young teen-agers, my brothers, my sister, and I were enrolled...
As young teen-agers, my brothers, my sister, and I were enrolled in the Christian Science Sunday School by our mother, who had been healed in Science. We children quickly realized the worth of what we were being taught and were able to put it into practice in our daily lives.
Nevertheless, around twenty I had a physical abnormality that had not yielded to prayer. Eager to serve my country during the Second World War, I ceased having Christian Science treatment and submitted to a medical operation. During my years in the United States Marine Corps Reserve, I did not actively study this Science, although the lessons learned in Sunday School were put into practice as the occasion demanded.
After leaving the service I accepted employment in a large city. At that point I drifted away from Science entirely, turning more and more to material means to solve my problems. Finally I determined that the only answer to mounting problems of poor health and limited employment lay in a renewed study of Christian Science. As I acted on this decision my health improved, and I obtained a better job with a vastly improved outlook for the future.
