Shortly after my wife learned she was pregnant, we engaged the services of a local physician. During the period of prenatal checkups all proceeded harmoniously. However, approximately three weeks before the baby's expected delivery date, the doctor informed my wife that she was suffering from toxemia—a condition he described as dangerous to the lives of both mother and baby. It was his suggestion that labor be induced immediately to prevent complications.
We pointed out to the doctor that we were Christian Scientists and desired to resolve the matter through prayer alone. He was skeptical but said he would wait a few more days before insisting on inducing labor.
Somewhat shaken, my wife and I went home and contacted a Christian Science practitioner for assistance. All fear and shock were quickly dispelled with a sense of peace as we pondered the truth of the situation: that man is never separated from God and that no in-harmony can interrupt being, since Life is God, and God is infinitely good.
