Those great buildings!

And as he went out of the temple, one of his disciples saith unto him, Master, see what manner of stones and what buildings are here! And Jesus answering said unto him, Seest thou these great buildings? there shall not be left one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down. (Mark 13:1, 2)

The Herodian temple is an object lesson in stone.

In 20 B.C. Herod the Great embarked on an enormous public works project: to repair, reconstruct, and enlarge the temple buildings and grounds at Jerusalem. The work was probably not yet finished in Jesus' day. Even partially completed, the complex, covering approximately thirty-five acres, was an impressive sight.
