Losing the humdrum through spiritual joy
Do we think of God as the fountain of beauty, joy, and radiance of spirit? If not, we should—and find the newness of life this brings.
According to Bible metaphor, God is the fountain of living waters, open freely to all who thirst. See Jer. 17: 13 and Rev. 21:6. The Christian Science textbook tells of God as infinite Mind, Love, the fount of immeasurable good. Its author, Mary Baker Eddy, asks, "Shall we plead for more at the open fount, which is pouring forth more than we accept?" Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 2.
Some people think of religion as dull and boring. What a travesty! Some long-accepted theological beliefs need revising! A knowledge of God bringing new strength, a new spirit, luminous joy, a new life—this is a cardinal theme throughout the Scriptures, particularly in the Psalms, some of the prophetical writings, and the New Testament.
