Christian Science has helped our family understand...
Christian Science has helped our family understand the omnipotent nature of God. A healing of our son particularly enlightened us to the wonder of God's saving care for His children.
During Easter vacation of his senior year in high school, our son became enervated and needed to rest often. The evidence of disease was quite apparent. We called a Christian Science practitioner, who prayed earnestly for him and comforted my wife and me. Because of the seriousness of the case, the practitioner recommended I get in touch with the Christian Science Committee on Publication for our state. The contact was made, and there was an immediate outpouring of love and concern. This expression of love shown by the Committee on Publication for each member of The Mother Church was so emphatic that fear began to fade. Also, throughout the period of several weeks, the practitioner gave us warm encouragement every day.
Our son was in a semiconscious state much of the time. This was alarming, and my anxiety about his condition plus a burdensome feeling of responsibility had to be lifted. Instead of dwelling on the symptoms, I needed to accept God's cherishing of all His children. As I became humble, God's ever-presence was clearer to me. In the Bible we read (I Pet. 5:6, 7): "Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you." An awareness of God's gentle guardianship of our son freed me from worry. Any doubts that our son was truly a spiritual idea, a direct offspring of Deity, were removed by prayer. This included a thorough study of the Lord's Prayer, a simple acceptance of the love and truth it imparts, and an acknowledgment of the power and presence of our heavenly Father.
