I was a teen-ager when I became interested in Christian Science
I was a teen-ager when I became interested in Christian Science. My first outstanding healings were those of an infected ear, a heart condition, and a growth on one toe.
The heart condition, which had been diagnosed before I came into Science, was healed while I was attending the Christian Science Sunday School. As I became aware of God's allness—His omnipotence and omnipresence—my childlike trust released me from the fear of heart spells. I learned to pray to God as a God right here, not up in the sky somewhere. I became happier and more active. It was a beautiful unfoldment. As I grew in spiritual understanding, the heart trouble was healed and I enjoyed a normal life.
Another time I experienced an internal difficulty. I had been nurturing a pain in my side for several days. Soon a fever developed. But you don't coddle error! Mrs. Eddy tells us (Science and Health, p. 376), "Destroy fear, and you end fever." I called a Christian Science practitioner, who asked me, "What are you believing about God's child? Did God tell you that you have a fever and pain?" Of course I knew that God doesn't cause or know disease, since the Bible tells us He is "of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity" (Hab. 1:13). I saw that we have to watch the thoughts we entertain. I was so happy! I had been healed right there and then, as thought had been corrected. I thanked God and "went on [my] way rejoicing" (Acts 8:39).
