Tuberculosis in its last stages healed
Years ago a great-aunt in our family was diagnosed by doctors as having tuberculosis in its last stages. According to their reports, one lung was completely deteriorated, and the second lung was almost gone. As this relative lay on her deathbed, she learned of Christian Science. With the help of a Christian Science practitioner, her health was completely restored, and she lived a useful life afterward. Our whole family came into Science as a result of this wonderful healing.
Mary Baker Eddy prefaced Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures with this inviting promise (p.vii): "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings." A third-generation Christian Scientist, I have received these blessings as my family and I have relied exclusively on our understanding of the allness of God, Spirit. We have had healings of so-called childhood diseases, dislocated vertebrae, serious burns, and effects of accidents that included a fall from a factory roof. As for myself, Science has brought healing or resolution to each situation confronting me—sickness, financial and employment difficulties, professional problems, and grief. As I have studied and prayed to displace material thinking with evidence of the all-power and perfection of God, embracing His spiritual man, divine Love has filled every void.
Once, while my husband and I were attending a meeting in a city away from home, I suddenly became very ill at a dinner banquet. My next remembrance was of regaining consciousness, sitting in a chair with a crowd of people around me. The house doctors were there, and they questioned me about my condition. My first words were that I was a Christian Scientist and would appreciate someone phoning a Christian Science practitioner. The doctors asked permission to take my blood pressure, and the other people expressed concern. I thanked them all and repeated my request that a Christian Science practitioner be phoned. Someone brought a telephone number, and my husband made the call. The practitioner told my husband she would pray for me immediately. My confidence that God was indeed in control increased.
