In my role as a young wife and mother of three small children, I felt strongly responsible for everything that happened to my family. I knew of no religion that could free me of this false responsibility or give me practical guidance in coping with the family.

When our second son was a baby, he had all sorts of illnesses— asthma, convulsions from high fever, tonsillitis, and bronchitis. I was constantly taking him to the best doctors available, but their efforts failed to cure him.

At this difficult time, my eldest sister gave me a copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. This was my introduction to Christian Science. I did not understand all I read, but I sensed that the book might teach me more about God and our son's relationship to Him as His child. I engaged a Christian Science practitioner to assist me, and at once my life began to change for the better. The joy and peace I felt are indescribable. Little by little, old beliefs and fears were cast aside for the truths of God and His love for all. Our son responded to my spiritualized reasoning about the one creator and man's relationship to Him, and he was soon healed. I too was freed—of reliance on tranquilizers, smoking, and drinking.
