Gratitude and joy furnished the spiritual foundation for a recent healing. At the time of a blizzard that hit the Midwest early in 1979, I slipped on the ice and fell with great force. An awareness of God's ever-present love overshadowed mortal suggestions of pain and difficulty in walking, and I was able to rise and return to our second-floor apartment.

This challenge was regarded not as a problem but as a steppingstone to spiritual growth. There followed calm assurance of God's omnipotence and omnipresence. Man's unity with God, infinite Mind, was acknowledged. I claimed that divine Mind, the only Mind, eternally imparts the intelligence that enables one to see through the lie of discord and bear witness to the Christ, Truth. Each of us possesses this intelligence and ability by reason of reflection. Mrs. Eddy writes (Science and Health, p. 481), "God's being is infinity, freedom, harmony, and boundless bliss." I affirmed that in my real nature I embodied these same qualities derived from God. Using the Concordances to Mrs. Eddy's writings and the Christian Science Hymnal, I made an in-depth study of the words infinity, freedom, harmony, and boundless bliss. This research afforded me an invaluable understanding of God's allness and man's inseparable relationship to Him.

During this period I was asked to do many things requiring considerable physical exertion. Even simple movement was not accomplished without discomfort and great effort. These words of Psalm 139 brought the comforting conviction that I could do all that was required of me (v. 2): "Thou [God] knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off." Divine Love silenced the mortal clamorings of strain and stress with the assurance that God, Love, governs His idea, man. Applying the other synonyms for God as they relate to His offspring, I saw that Truth supports, Spirit strengthens, Mind illumines, Soul harmonizes, Principle arranges, and Life vitalizes.
