Two summers ago my wife, our son, and I were shown wonderfully clear evidence of divine Mind's protection in a situation that might have had grave consequences. This instance made me realize, too, that since my days in Christian Science Sunday School, almost fifty years ago, there have been many occasions when I have been blessed with God's guidance and protection. I had six and a half years of Army service, and emerged unharmed from three crashed aircraft. There must have been countless other occasions when, protected, I was even unaware of any danger. On the occasion I wish to relate here, I am glad I was able to see the danger, lest I take protection too much for granted and fail to express my gratitude for it.

On Sunday, August 22, 1976, at 8 a.m., we set sail in our yacht from the southeast coast of Corsica, in the Mediterranean. (There was no Christian Science church service in that island for us to attend!) We were bound for the island of Elba, a distance of about one hundred miles in a direction due northeast.

At 11:05, for no significant nautical reason, I suddenly changed my mind as to the exact port to make for, and altered course by turning twenty degrees to the north.
