Rejoicing before the rain
The day seemed like many we had had recently. Numerous clouds hung in the sky, and yet no rain came. But today I noticed something different: birdsong filled the air! The birds were singing as if they were expressing gratitude for the rain, which was not yet evident. I was reminded of their singing when some time later I looked out and saw a small bird fluffing his feathers during a rain bath.
Often we rejoice when a healing has taken place or when a problem has been overcome. But do we always remember to rejoice and accept truth when we seem to be in the middle of a problem?
Christ Jesus spoke to this point centuries ago when an official sought him out to come and heal his son. "Then said Jesus unto him, Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe." The man continued to plead with Jesus until "Jesus saith unto him, Go thy way; thy son liveth. And the man believed the word that Jesus had spoken unto him, and he went his way." John 4:48, 50; The son was healed before the father reached home.
